Expert Suggests Moving 6th Graders out of Elementary Schools to Ease Enrollment Crunch

Consultant Robert Hendriks of Educational Legacy Planning has come up with a short-term plan to ease the enrollment crunch at the district’s elementary and middle schools. Here’s what he suggests doing starting next fall:

-          Change TOAST and Pine Hills back to pre-K through grade 5 schools

-          Send 6th graders from TOAST to Hackett

-          Send 6th graders from Pine Hills to Myers

-          Send 6th graders from Arbor Hill to North Albany Academy

-          Go back to having only 3 classrooms per grade at New Scotland, starting with next year’s entering kindergarten class

Here’s Hendriks’ complete presentation with more details.

Hendriks will be sharing his thoughts with the public at tonight’s Board of Education meeting, which will take place at 7:00 PM at Schuyler Achievement Academy.

What do you think of his ideas?
